Common questions
What's a wedding muhurat exactly?
A muhurat is an electional moment chosen for an event so that the planetary configuration supports it. For weddings, classical Vedic texts emphasize five panchang factors at the moment of the ceremony: tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (lunar mansion), vara (weekday), yoga, and karana. Combined with the bride's natal moon (Tara Bal) and the bride and groom's individual charts, these point to days where the marriage starts on the strongest possible energetic footing.
How does this calculator score each day?
Each day in your range is scanned every 15 minutes from actual sunrise (New Delhi) to the next sunrise. A muhurat window is any stretch where the Moon is in one of the 11 vivah nakshatras (Rohini, Mrigashira, Magha, Uttara Phalguni, Hasta, Swati, Anuradha, Mula, Uttara Ashadha, Uttara Bhadrapada, Revati) on an auspicious tithi (not Amavasya, Purnima, Rikta tithis or Ashtami). Whole periods are skipped: Chaturmas, Kharmas (Sun in Dhanu or Meena), Adhik maas, Holashtak, Guru asta and Shukra asta. The score reflects how long the day's windows are; with the bride's nakshatra, Tara Bal adds or subtracts points.
Why ~06:30 IST instead of actual sunrise?
Times are computed from New Delhi's sunrise, so other Indian cities differ by a few minutes. The date list itself rarely changes. For the ceremony, your pandit fixes the exact lagna for the venue within one of these windows.
Does this account for Chaturmas (the four months of Vishnu-sleep)?
Yes. Chaturmas (Devshayani Ekadashi to Devuthani Ekadashi — in 2026, until 20 November) is excluded entirely, as are Kharmas, Adhik maas, Holashtak and the periods when Jupiter or Venus is combust. If your range falls inside these, the result will say so rather than suggest a date.
What about Adhik Maas, Panchak, eclipses?
2026 has no Adhik Maas (intercalary lunar month). Panchak (5-day inauspicious window per ~27 days) and eclipse-windows are not currently scored as separate factors — they often correlate with low tithi/nakshatra scores already. For a strict reading, ask in a consultation.
Why is Tara Bal important?
Tara Bal compares the candidate-day's nakshatra to the bride's natal moon nakshatra by counting forward and grouping into 9 categories (Janma, Sampat, Vipat, Kshema, Pratyak, Sadhaka, Vadha, Mitra, Param Mitra). Janma (1), Vipat (3), Pratyak (5), and Vadha (7) are inauspicious; the rest are favourable. It's the classical way of personalizing a generic muhurat to the bride's chart specifically.
How is this different from Drik Panchang or other muhurat sites?
General panchang lists publish one set of dates for the whole country. Ours uses the same core rules, shows the exact time windows and why each day qualifies, and can personalise with the bride's nakshatra. Regional customs differ, so always confirm with your family pandit.
